Medical Screening

Once you enroll, we will send you information to complete for medical screening. The purpose of the medical screening is to ensure that we can safely and realistically accommodate any physical, dietary, or mental health issues or challenges that you know may affect your time on the Icefield. All Medical and Health information will be reviewed by our team of expedition doctors. They will have the final say on whether JIRP can accommodate any participant for health reasons.

We will refund any payments you have made to JIRP if our doctors decide you cannot safely participate in the JIRP field season.

Tuition & Field Fee Payments

We are still finalizing numbers for the 2024 field season, but we estimate that the combined cost of field fees (paid directly to FGER) and tuition (paid to CU Boulder or UAS) will be not more than $12,000.

We will let you know by February 14, 2024 what the final breakdown of field fees and tuition will be for this year. All field fees are due April 1st. Please find instructions for paying this field fee, as well as all relevant refund policies, in your email. If a payment plan to extend this over another month will help you pay field fees, please contact the JIRP staff.

In addition to field fees, students pay tuition for credits directly to the University of Colorado Boulder or the University of Alaska Southeast. We will assist students with their enrollment directly to either CU Boulder,or UAS, and walk them through separate tuition payments for credits directly to those schools. These payments will be due in May 2024.

 Cancellation Policy

It is important students and their families understand JIRP’s Cancellation Policy, especially in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. This cancellation policy is intended to protect both the students’ investment and the financial commitments JIRP has to make to ensure smooth operations. It includes new policies to cover student withdrawal due to illness or injury, and whole program cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. Students and their families should familiarize themselves with the cancellation policy before making any payments to JIRP.
