The Icefield Traverse is an equipment intensive pursuit, and environmental conditions are somewhat warmer and wetter than many other glaciated landscapes (especially Antarctica and Greenland). If you’re planning to apply for the 2024 field season, please look through the 2023 Equipment List. With few exceptions, faculty will need everything on the list.
Most of our rental equipment is reserved for students, but there may be some pieces available for faculty. Please do not rely on JIRP for rental skis.
