First-Year Field Staff

Pay: $128/day
Season Dates: late May - mid-August
Location: Icefield
Responsibilities: First-Year Field Staff teach alpine safety skills, mentor undergraduate students, lead trail parties on the glacier, and manage large field camps.
Returning Field Staff

Pay: $128-$200/day, dependent on experience & assignment
Season Dates: late May - mid-August (Undergrad Field Course) or late May - early July (Research/Grad Field Course)
Location: Icefield
Responsibilities: Returning Field Staff are hired for either the Undergraduate Field Course or Research Camp/the Graduate Field Course. Responsibilities may include the same as First-Year Field Staff, plus mentoring younger staff, opening and closing camps, and increased responsibilities as needed and able.
Junior Town Staff
Status: Applications Open, due December 31, 2025 by midnight AKST. A complete application package consists of an application and two recommendations (submit contact info TWICE at the link below).
Pay: $14/hour
Season Dates: late May - early August
Location: Juneau
Responsibilities: Junior Town Staff assist with Program needs in town. They make grocery and sundry purchases, pack helicopter loads, and assist with personnel movements in town.
Town Logistics Coordinator

Pay: $20-23/hr, commensurate with experience
Season Dates: early April - late May (part-time) and late May - mid-August (full-time)
Location: Juneau
Responsibilities: The Town Logistics Coordinator works with the Program Manager to supervise the Program’s logistics needs in town. They communicate daily with teams in the field, organize grocery and sundry purchases, manage the helicopter flight schedule, and supervise personnel movements in town.
Facilities Staff
Status: Applications Opening Soon
Pay: starting at $128/day, commensurate with experience
Season Dates: early June - early August
Location: Icefield
Responsibilities: Facilities Staff maintain buildings, snow vehicles, and generators against daily use, and may participate in more focused improvement projects as scheduling/interest allow.
Alpine Safety Manager/Lead
Status: No openings anticipated for Summer 2026
Pay: starting at $260/day, depending on JIRP field course and commensurate with experience
Season Dates: early June - early August, shorter shifts available
Location: Icefield
Responsibilities: The Alpine Safety Manager/Lead is responsible for training Field Staff in basic and intermediate alpine safety skills, supervising faculty safety training, scouting routes, and managing other aspects of glacier safety for groups as needed. AMGA/IFMGA certification is required.
